Early Enterprise
Walter Elias Disney was born December 5th 1901. He had three brothers and a sister, but his brother Roy would become his closest companion. They lived on a farm in Missouri and it was on that farm that Walt began to draw. At the age of fourteen Walt joined a Saturday morning class at an art institute in Kansas City were he began his first formal art training. The Disney family moved again to Chicago where Walt enrolled in McKinley High School, he contributed drawings to the school paper and received more art instruction from a newspaper cartoonist named Gossett. Walt became a Red Cross driver during WWI and when he returned to the U.S he moved back to Kansas City and began working for a film company that produced commercials, and animated films. These animations were crude but it was practice for Disney. He began his own animation and designed a newspaper cartoon that he sold to the Newman theatre. Disney made enough money to open his own company, and so he did, it was named Laugh-O-Grams...
