Saving Private Ryan
The death and destruction of war is great in any case. Is war always necessary, or are there
other solutions to resolving conflicts throughout the world? In the case of World War II against Hitler
and the Nazis of Germany, I believe war was definitely necessary. The movie, Saving Private Ryan,
shows all the tragedies and triumphs of war. Each character goes through both mental and physical
hardships while they try to save Private James Francis Ryan, played by Matt Damon. The views and
opinions of Captain Miller, Sergeant Horvath, and Private Reiben toward their mission to save this man
they do not even know differ from one another.
Captain Miller, played by Tom Hanks, shows his extraordinary leadership and character during
the duration of the film. His intelligence, poise, and courage are all outstanding as he leads his troops on
their mission through the French countryside. He realizes the importance of his teams mission while the
rest of the group thinks it's a worthless waste of time, effort, and not worth the risk of dying to save one
man. His opinion of the situation is a positive one...
