Martin Luther: a Man who Preached what was Considered Heresy
Martin Luther was a German man who lived from 1483 to 1546. He is the man that is cause of the whole Reformation in Europe. As a monk in the Roman Catholic Church, he wanted to keep a good relationship with God to avoid going to purgatory, or hell, after death. Luther had many ideas that were considered controversial by the pope and much of Europe's population. Many things happened because of this and Martin Luther could've lost his life.
It all started in 1514 when Luther realized that people were not coming to him for confession anymore. Instead they were going to other towns to buy indulgences. Indulgences were a way for people to buy their salvation. A big seller of indulgences, a Dominican monk named Johann Tetzel, was said to be able to redeem the sins of the dead. Indulgences forgave the individual sinners but not the sins...
