View of the Pharaoh in the Old Kingdom
"The Pharaoh of Egypt was a god in his own right. To be more accurate, he was many god's" . Due to the belief that the Pharaoh was of divine origin or a god, the Pharaohs of the Old Kingdom held great amounts of power over the land and people. While this meant that they were worshipped and admired by the people. This also resulted in feeling the wrath of the people being should the land be in turmoil. Leaving with the Pharaoh a huge responsibility to the welfare of the Kingdom. The Pharaoh was the ultimate authority of the land and was used to represent the harmony between man and the divine. By being both mortal and divine he was the bridge. In the same way that a God watches over his people, so to was a Pharaoh responsible in overseeing the affairs of Egypt ensuring the well being of the land and people.
