The entire plot of Hamlet is created by Hamlet's motive for revenge; without this there would be no substance or storyline to the play. For example, Claudius killing Hamlet's father motivates Hamlet to seek revenge. This is the first time Hamlet feels he must get revenge for the wrong that has taken place. This initial incident causes a chain reaction and many other bad things stem from this. Another example would be after Claudius kills Hamlet's father he marries Hamlet's mother (Gertrude) in order to gain kingship. When Hamlet says "This was your Husband/ Here is your husband" he is pleading with his mother to give up her relationship with Claudius (Girard). Hamlet is showing here if he splits Claudius and Gertrude up he may partly have revenged his father's death. If he is successful in splitting them up Hamlet would become king like he was expected to be initially. Revenge is a common theme in Hamlet's life at this point and he feels in order to undo the wrong-doing that has been done he must seek revenge.
The way Hamlet deals with the tragedy is crucial in providing depth and structure to the play...
