It is often said that our families make us the people we are in today's society; this is how we learn to interact with our fellow humans. However, controversially, recent research that has taken place in the U.S. suggests otherwise. Psychologist Judith Rich Harris states in her argument that our friends have the bigger impression on who we become rather than what our parents do. This astounding theory has taken America by storm and has yet again created a curious presumption in everyone's head. The prize-winning psychologist communicates her bold theory in a way which no one has ever considered, presenting her own beliefs in a confident yet challenging manner. In her article Harris considers and describes different situations where friends have a serious effect on the way children's eventual personalities are developed. She argues that young people learn much more from their friends outside the home than they do from parents and close family within the home.
She agrees that children do learn in the comfort and security of home, but she is also convinced that outside the home, children are able to learn new and different things which will be ideal for their learning and understanding of the world that awaits them in adulthood...
