Did the Mexican War and Adding Texas Cause the Civil War

The annexation of Texas and the Mexican War unintentionally brought about the internal debate of whether slavery should be allowed and this in the end led to the start of the Civil War.
In 1836, Texas had chosen to break free of Mexican rule and applied to be annexed into statehood within the United States. Unfortunately, it didn't work this time. When Texas was up for annexation the first time, the president was Andrew Jackson. Jackson was too busy involved with other problems within the union to pay much attention to annexation and expansion of the union. He had pressing issues with the nullification crisis of the south and with the difficulty with the south and the south's disagreement to the tariff placed on goods from other countries. Both of these problems already were causing a problem within the sectional balance of the US. For example, when the nullification crisis was happening, the states were trying to say that they had the power to choose how to conduct themselves. The issue of self-governing states was reintroduced during the First Lincoln- Douglas Debate in 1858.
