Many people are affected with diabetes in today's world. There are numerous research facilities attempting to find a cure for diabetes. One of the major research facilities is the Diabetes Research Institution.
Islet cell transplantation is one attempt at a cure. Islet cell transplantation is a biological replacement strategy that attempts to give back to Type 1 diabetic patients the insulin-producing pancreas cells (islets) that have been mistakenly destroyed by their own immune system. In order to perform islet cell transplantation there are many steps. The islet isolation process begins with the preparation of a donor pancreas.
