WHAT IS POST PARTUME DEPRESSION?
Having a baby can be one of the biggest and happiest events in a woman's life. While life with a baby can be thrilling and rewarding it can also be hard and stressful at times. Many physical and emotional changes can happen to a woman once she gives birth, including Postpartum Depression. PPD is a condition that describes a range of physical and emotional changes that many mothers can have after having a baby. PPD can be treated with medication and counseling (Husman, A & Goodnick, P). The word postpartum means "after birth," and postpartum illnesses are those conditions which can cause changes in mood after the birth of a baby. Many factors can contribute to the host of new feelings that women will experience after the birth of a new baby: reduced sleep, having to care for the baby 24 hours a day, fluctuating hormone levels, loss of freedom, unpredictable schedule, physical pain that comes with giving birth, increased work load, and increased responsibility, among others.
