Law, language, and the military are only some of the things that Rome is known for. Without the Romans superior knowledge in these elements of running a republic Rome would not have been nearly as great. The Romans came up with a new law system that was more flexible than others during this time, the language they had created was a good way for communication and also possessed qualities that can be seen in many pieces of great literature, and the Roman's military was virtually undefeatable.
Roman law was based upon tolerance and rationality, and was meant to give all people equal rights even if they belonged to a different culture or to a different community. The first code of law that the Romans put into affect was called the Twelve Tables, these tables were based on the stoic teachings and used a language that everyone could understand. There were elected officials that helped to interpret and revise these laws and they were call Magistrates (similar to our present day lawyers). The Justinian Code was later created in the 6th centurary A.D. and it consisted of four key parts which were code, digest, institutes, and novels.
