In the past decade ecstasy use has been growing exponentially and at most alarming rates. One out of every eleven teenagers has tried it at least once which means that 2.8 million of American teens have been under its influence. Experimentation of ecstasy among teens has increased 71% in the past three years alone. In 1998 the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse concluded that 3.4 million of the American population had used it at least once. According to a survey taken by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in the year 2000, 6.5 million Americans ages 12 and older were reported lifetime users and in 2001 it went up to a shocking 8.1 million (Testimony02).
