The Market for Alcohol and Public Policy
Your assignment is to gather and report information regarding how the market for beer and other forms of alcohol is affected by public policy. How is the well-being of consumers, producers, others affected by the production and consumption of beer, the price of beer, and the amount of beer sold influenced by public policies?
Public policy issues as competition, taxes, externalities, international trade, anti-trust laws and cartels, and price controls, are common in this market. Fortunately, we have studied these issues in Principles of Microeconomics. Your paper should examine the effects of several of these policies on the market for alcohol. When considering a public policy, be sure to carefully determine who is helped and hurt by the policy and the size of these welfare changes. You will want to use both verbal and graphical analysis of this market in your paper.
