earth's layers

11. Using the terms crust, mantle, and core, describe Earths internal structure. We live in the topmost layer of Earth, the crust. It is made up of hard, solid rock and it is relatively cool. There are two types of crust. There is oceanic crust that is the one beneath the ocean and there is the continental crust that is the one we live on. The next layer under the crust is the mantle. The mantle is denser than the crust and makes up 80% of the Earths volume. We have never seen the mantle. The rocks in the inner portion of the mantle are extremely hot and are said to be plastic.
