Public Policy-Health Care and Medicaid
Health care is a major public policy issue in the United States. The United States spends more money on health care than any other nation in the world and as a result mortality rates have dropped to an all time low in recent years. (Almanac) Despite these facts, however, many Americans are still not receiving proper health care. The groups of people who are not receiving the health care they need include low income families with children, people with disabilities, and the elderly. The fact is these people need help and there is help available. There are programs in place which can help these people receive the health care they need. It is important that these programs are protected and even improved. One federal program which is in place to help Americans receive the health care they need is Medicaid. However, this program is in trouble. Budget shortfalls and the growing number of beneficiaries are forcing many states to reassess their Medicaid programs...
