Ice Age Analysis

Written and directed by Chris Wedge, a founding member of Blue Sky Studios,
the story is set in an "ice age", where the animals are heading southward to
migrate. The three main characters are Manny, who is a huge and smarter
than average mammoth, Sid an ugly little sloth and finally there is Diego a
man-eating saber tooth tiger. This is a very cute film on the surface, but
beneath it are thousands of hours of gut-wrenching work!
First thing is first. The Creation of the characters was a very complicated
process. Before anyone did anything the designers had to look for
inspiration. Before rough sketches began, the Blue Sky studios animation
team set out to the museum of natural history to discover what the
prehistoric beings actually looked like. In the beginning they wanted the
landscape to look extremely surreal. They tried to come up with a combination
of interesting, ugly, and weird creatures. Eg...
