My Reflections toward people with disabilities after studying a course

Course: An Insightful and Reflective Journey: Learning How to Work with People with Disabilities
Although there were not many classmates from my year to take this course, I felt I had made a right choice after going through this 3-month journey. In fact, the course did not teach us how to work with people with disabilities, but the attitude we should have in facing our friends who have certain physical or mental challenges. The following is part of my treasures from the course:
1. Disabilities Difference
It was indeed paradoxical to define some people as disabled or handicapped. We all have certain kind of disabilities in various contexts. When I look at my own life, it is not difficult for me to discover similar disabilities on myself too, such as being unable to tidy my own room, speak fluently in front of my class and maintain long-term friendships with some classmates etc. From this sense, we are all of no difference with the so-called disabled people. Furthermore, I discovered from this course that many people with physical or mental challenges were as competent as we are, or even more talented. They have their own strengths in various aspects and could achieve high standards if they were given chances. Thus, they should not be seen differently...
