The theme of "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding is "an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature" (pg. 204) There are many symbols throughout the book that significantly apply to the theme. This includes Piggy's glasses, the conch, Simon, Roger, Jack, The Island, The scar, the beast and the Lord of the Flies. Symbolic emblems are a big part of Lord of the Flies and are very important to the story. There are many symbolic images throughout the book, which are taken very seriously by the boys.
There are many examples of symbolism used throughout Golding's book. Piggy's glasses symbolize clear-sightedness, and intelligence. This represents the status of social order. Ralph and the conch represent democracy and order, the conch is a vital part of the story. Without these two all order is gone and everything is uncivilized...
