I have a chosen a combined degree in Criminology and either Law or Psychology, as I am interested in both traditional ideas and contemporary research into criminal behaviour. I would like to look further into the topic of criminology in a more systematic and analytical way, instead of just skimming the surface. The Law has an increasing influence on society and I would like to see what makes people break the law. From a young age, my Grandfather has told me stories about people breaking the law, and it was always what was going on in the perpetrators mind I was more interested in, and not the actual crime. I think a degree in Criminology and either Law or Psychology would offer me a broader range of learning curves and offer new challenges for me to tackle.
When choosing my A-level subjects I thought long and hard about the subjects that would complement my chosen career path well, and chose Law, Psychology, History and English Literature. History allowed me to acquire the skills of evaluation and research. It helped me to assess the significance of the evidence given and how to construct a good argument to argue my case. It gave me valuable and transferable skills that I now use and hope to develop in the future. English has helped me to explore new texts, some of which I wouldn't have normally read...
