Attract So Much Attention?
The ripper murders attracted so much attention for several reasons. They included the violent nature of the crimes, the victims, the interference of the press (including the numerous letters they published), and the mystery of trying to catch him.
The gory violence of the murders and the apparent lack of motive shocked the public. Never before had anyone committed such brutal sickening crimes. The way the victims were mutilated intrigued the public, the press descried it to be 'extraordinary'. Also he gained attention, as he was the first recorded serial killer.
Such crimes were possible because of the murderer's choice of victim. He had chosen only to murder prostitutes, who scraped bye living in doss houses, and who, no one really new where they were at any one time. Meaning they were vulnerable and it was easy to kill one of them without anyone realizing...
