At Jesus' baptism, Jesus received the Holy Spirit. He was confirmed as the Son of God. He was baptised in the river Jordan by John the Baptist. 'As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."'(Mark 1:10-11) This was the start of his ministry. When we get baptised, we too receive the Holy Spirit. So to do we begin our life in Christ. Today, baptism is still based on the baptism of Jesus. It can occur when the person is an adult or when he or she is a baby...
