The Last Great Wilderness The Arctic sun lies low in the sky, setting on yet another day at the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. To the untrained eye this chilly tundra may look unuseful and desolate, this 19- million acre patch of land is rich with wildlife. Better yet beneath the permafrost lies valuable oil. Regardless or it's value, this untainted land, this "Last Great Wilderness" needs to be protected. Protected from those eager to tear up this fragile ecosystem in search of the "all mighty dollar". Here, there is more than what meets the eye. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is home to mountains, rivers, plant life, polar, black and grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, moose and millions of migrating birds. Just to name a few. Drilling for oil here would completely alter they're way of life, perhaps even cause some species to become extinct in this area. Plant life would also be affected. These are among the harshest conditions on earth for plants.
