" The Smell of a Baby "
The story revolves around a Sinhalese middle-class family that portrays a clear picture of the emotional and social turmoil they experienced. When we get down to it, Asian stories usually revolves around families and friends but always family because it seems to symbolize Asian society as a whole. Family is the foundation of the society. Without it, there's no foundation that makes up a solid state. This story tells about the different point views of the parents and their children in terms of marriage, love, social status and family honor. Asoka Colombage, the author, tells about his family life in this story.
All nationalities Indian, Chinese, Spanish, Americans, Sinhalese have the low, middle, and upper class in their society. We can never eliminate status discrimination because that's how the society goes and it really does exist. No matter how unfair and prejudiced it is, the upper-classes somehow seems to nearly own the world while the lower classes are treated like dirt...
