The way media affects the values and attitudes of teenagers in today's society is an issue that is increasingly becoming a concern. In Australia the health issues associated with negative self-appreciation are becoming more and more popular, and yet the media continues to portray what they consider the 'perfect image', and image which everyone compares to. Everyday we see this image, on television, in magazines and any other sources of advertising, and it is all too strongly affecting the lives of teenagers, creating a less healthy and less happy society.
What we are presented with is an issue called 'body image'. Body image is the way that a person feels about themselves and the way they look. A person with a good body image will respect themselves for their confidence, and their personality, and will generally have a greater self-esteem. Someone with bad body image is the person who is influenced by the media, to reflect on how they physically appear, rather than admiring their inner beauty. You can point out the people who have a negative body image; they are the ones that are constantly trying to 'improve' themselves and are buying cosmetic products that will apparently make them 'beautiful'.
Majority of people whom this issue concerns are women. Men can also be effected but generally not to the same extent...
