In the middle of nowhere there is a small country town, mid west of America called Endora. In Endora there is a family called the Grapes. They live in a two-story house, which is falling apart. The Grape family have a lot of problems in their family. Their dad hanged himself in their basement leaving the kids to look after their obese mother and their youngest brother Arnie who is disabled. The oldest son left so Gilbert had to earn the money and look after Arnie all by himself while Amy did the cooking and cleaning, and Ellen helped out in anyway she could.
Bonnie, Gilberts Mum used to be pretty and thin but now after the death of her husband she got depressed and started eating now the kids have to play the parent role for there mother. After Arnies 18th birthday party and after talking to Becky. Bonnie died of a heart attack. She was climbing the stairs and got all the way up but unfortunately she dies straight after she lied down...
