Drawing is one form of artistic expression, there are many other forms of artistic expressions such as painting, sculpturing, photography, performance, action art, collages and a wide range of digital Medias. Artist such as, Jackson Pollock, Yasumasa Morimura and Do-Ho Suh have chosen other art forms to communicate and convey meaning to their audience through their unique art making practice.
Abstract expressionism, the art movement was a period where by artists used this form of art making to express and illustrate emotions, feelings, and activity.
Jackson Pollock, an American abstract expressionist, challenged the notion that a picture was the end result of a planned design, transferred to wood, paper or canvas. He made paintings an all over surface affair, placing the work on the floor and using wild tracery lines, spots of colour he trailed and dripped the paint in accordance with his physical movement to express his emotions.
Jackson Pollock does not plan and sketch his work. His work revolves around the notion of expressing himself in his paintings. Pollock uses sticks, trowels, knives, test tubes, and dripping fluid paint or a heavy impasto with objects such as sand broken glass and foreign matter. Pencil and paper for drawing would not quantify the thickness and emotive flow of the lines and spontaneity of the work. Pollock's work express feelings rather then illustrate them...
