Corey's Ocean Experience
I'd say I was pretty lucky as a young boy growing up. Not only did I grow up in Maui and have unlimited access to the ocean along all of Maui's beaches, but I got to go out on a boat to Molokini whenever I wanted to see and enjoy the deep blue ocean. Unlimited sailing, unlimited snorkeling, unlimited whale-watching, all you could eat food, all you could drink soda; all the fun you could wish for. All these benefits are due to the fact that my dad played bass on the Wailea Kai, a boat harbored in Ma'alaea.
I think the most enjoyable part about those boat trips was the snorkeling. I remember in the days before I could swim, I would use a boogie board with a view hole. I would lie down on it and marvel at how such a diverse world could live just below us while my dad would push me around. I would see fish of every shape, size, and color you could think of. I saw turtles and one time, I even saw a shark. It was a black-tip, a breed harmless to humans, and I got really scared...
