If Looks Could Kill
Introduction:
Today, Women are bombarded by the message that "thin is in," - the type of body sported by the sleek, thin supermodels and female actors. Everywhere women look they find themselves surrounded by statements such as "lose weight" or "firm up flab". Most women do not feel attractive unless they meet society's standard of being thin. Therefore many women become obsessive with dieting and are willing to sacrifice their health for a socially acceptable physical appearance.
Society pressures women to be thin:
Modern media brainwashes women and their perception of how they should look. Women's magazines are not just a source of fashion dos and don'ts but a blueprint or manual for female appearance. They present themselves as a how-to guide for being successful, popular and attractive. They also present success, popularity and attractiveness as if they are one and the same. Magazine covers only feature stars and models with their underweight, "perfect" bodies. For this reason, consumers get a false sense of "minimally acceptable physical appearance"...
