To point and judge is quite easy and common in today's complex society, yet when we do we tend to ignore the reasons why this is the case. During chaotic times such as war, innocence is ultimately lost, and with it follows faith, reason and under certain circumstances, morale values. Superficially, war has torn families "it takes a word, it takes a gesturefor a whole family to vanish" (p.111)
Destroyed countries, and has historically displayed acts of unparalleled callousness to one another. During such hectic periods, people will ultimately make critical decisions, which then is followed by consequences and possibly condemnations.
INTERESTING NOTE
-in the context of war and situations portrayed in a novel, people tend to develop their own personal philosophies and consequent morality. Talzani and Morales at first at their principals of helping people yet during wars, the needs of individuals are necessarily subsumed into the broader goals of the collective, the group or nation.
