The Oppression Of Expression
Today in our society music plays a determinating role in establishing our culture. It is used as a way to communicate between people, and a way to relate shared and not shared experiences. Historically music has helped to define culture within societies, Native Americans utilized the sounds of music to interact to their higher powers, and Native Africans used music as a way to relate there on going story of there people. With music having such a defining role in the evolution of civilizations. What impact did slavery in North America have on Africans ability to evolve and understand their rich cultural histories? How did the repression of there expression affect the message behind the African-American experience through the medium of music.
The first African Slaves were brought to America from Africa's West Coast. Even though the geographic location that these people were enslaved from is relatively close to each other.
