Get ready for a new form of extreme off-road racing that's taking over every rock and mountain in the world! The off-roading that I'm talking about is Extreme Rock Crawling. The legendary Walker Evens, winner of the first Baja 1000 race in 1979 and who now competes in Extreme Rock Crawling, said "It's the fastest growing motor sport that I've ever seen." When this sport first started people were using pretty much stock Jeeps that they lifted and put bigger tires on. Now people are building custom tubular buggies for this sport. One of the leaders in buggy building is Avalanche Engineering out of Bayfeild, Colorado. They started designing and building custom buggies in 1996 and have since designed, built and sold over 30 buggies starting at $20,000. They are the leaders in off-road innovations. They were the first to use 2 ton axles, the first to run rear wheel steering, and the first to run a single seat buggy in a competition.
