Building a Better Future

In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, by remembering the past, the survivors of an atomic bomb set off to build a better future for all mankind. Ultimately, the novel is optimistic as Montag, the main character, changes for the better, and hope is restored for the future of mankind.
Throughout the course of the novel, Montag changes for the better. In the beginning of the novel, Montag is devoid of emotion and feeling like the rest of the society. When Clarisse asks him if he is happy, she sparks a change in Montag's outlook on life. He realizes "he was not happyhe wore his happiness like a mask and the girl had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of going back to knock on her door and ask for it back"(12). Once he is aware of his true feelings, Montag starts down a path to right the wrongs that plague him. Rather than blindly following the society's established traditions and expected behaviors, Montag begins to question and rebel against the system that suppresses him...
