One similarity between Lenin, Stalin and Trotsky was there use of slogans to gain support. Lenin used the slogan "Peace, Bread, Land" to gain public support during the Bolshevik revolution. During the Bolshevik revolution Trotsky also introduced the slogan "For a Workers' and Farmers' Government. Like Lenin this Slogan was used to gain the less advanced workers and farmers support for reform. Unlike Lenin and Trotsky, Stalin first used slogans not to gain support during the Bolshevik revolution, but to gain support during his power struggle against Trotsky. The Famous slogan 'socialism in one country' was also able to appeal to the proletariat, however unlike Lenin and Trotsky, it was not used for the purpose of gaining support for the Bolshevik or communist party, it was used to gain support for himself. Although Lenin, Stalin and Trotsky all used simple language in their slogans to gain support from the proletariat, Stalin used them for a different purpose than Lenin and Trotsky.
Another similarity between Lenin and Trotsky that Stalin disagreed with, was the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Both Lenin and Trotsky opposed Russia's involvement in world war one whereas Stalin believed that Russia's involvement in the war could be justified. Lenin opposed the war on the grounds that it was fought with bourgeois governments and with bourgeois interest...
