Meat Packing
Fast Food Nation several different topics, and attempts to tie them together. It
begins with the history and explanation of how the fast food industry began. By applying
the industrial practice of line assembly to the restaurant industry, the fast food industry
was born. Many people then copied the successful pattern using different types of food
and then the industry expanded. By capitalizing on cut backs in budget concerning the restaurant industry, this leads to health problems in the locations where our food is inspected.
The cost cutting measures are not limited to the fast food industry. Schlosser's primary attack is upon the meat industry. This industry defines the essence of what is wrong with America. The government's practice in supporting the meat industry because of their large and unyielding power is also sickening.
Although the most mentally disturbing portions of the book describe in details
Schlosser's visit to a meat packing plant, it also is the most critical portion of the book
that describes the fundamental problems wrong with the industry...
