How does logic relate to critical thinking? Some may think that a good critical thinker must have good logical thinking skills. But is logical reasoning always the best policy? When trying to solve a problem, the logical answer may not always work. To be a good critical thinker, one must understand the components of critical thinking. Perception is one component of critical thinking. Each and every person has a different perception of everyday events. Our perceptions are driven from our background and upbringing. Religion or cultural background has a lot to do with perception. One culture may believe that women should not show too much skin, while another culture thinks its okay for a woman to show her belly button. The first culture mentioned would perceive the other cultures women to be sinful. Let’s use an office situation for an example. The boss takes an employee out for lunch just about every other day. Another coworker who witnesses this may think that the boss is playing favorites. Or, if it is a man and women going to lunch, some may assume there is an affair going on between the two co-workers.
