The conch shell is a large spiral shaped shell that comes from a conch, a specific type of mollusk. Some of the shells have yellow or pinkish tinge mixed in with a white color, most likely for protection and camouflaging purposes. The shells vary in size from relatively small, only three to four inches long, all the way up to almost two feet in length. Now they are most commonly found in the Caribbean, the West Indies, and the Florida Keys. Conch shells are highly collectable and have been valued for a great deal of time by many different civilizations.
The conch shell can serve several purposes. If blown into correctly, the conch can be used to make a trumpet like sound. The intensity of the sound produced by the shell is depending on the spirals and the volume of the conical shell. In ancient times this was very useful when trying to gather the attention of large amounts of people.
