Doug Flutie: Professional Hero
Doug Flutie has been a hero ever since his last-second touchdown pass against the defending national champions Miami that earned Boston College a berth into the 1984 Cotton Bowl, and also garnered his the Heisman Trophy. This is what most people remember him for. But besides winning the Heisman and six Grey Cup (the Canadian Football League's Super Bowl) victories, there is something else which above all makes Doug Flutie a leader. He is the father of an autistic son, Doug Jr. This has changed Doug's life dramatically.
Autism is a severely handicapping disorder which begins at birth or within the first 2 years of life. In 1994, Doug's son was diagnosed with autism, and in 1998, he and his wife, Laurie, created the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
