In the process of discovering information regarding a mother convicted of brutally stabbing her 2 sons while they slept, I discovered many discrepancies. Obsessed with the trial and the events that led up to it, I found myself sensing her absolute innocence. As a mother myself, I find it inconceivable a mother could kill her children. What was more intriguing was the fact that both the mother and her 2 sons were asleep, there was no motive, and she loved her sons. Also, if she simply wanted to be free of them to continue her lifestyle, as the police suggest, why would she have left her infant son alive when he was the one that would have taken more of her time than her 5 and 6 year old boys.
After reading the majority of the 52 volume trial transcripts, police reports, websites, and several news articles, I decided to focus my efforts on, as you suggested, the theme of guilty or innocent in three news articles available through Lexis-Nexis.
The method I used was reviewing themes using latent elements. The question that I focused on was, is she guilty or innocent using published newspaper articles.
The three articles I focused on were:

The Houston Chronicle from January 5, 1997, the Final Edition in Rowlett, TX
The Houston Chronicle from January 17, 1997, the 3 Star Edition in Kerrville, TX
The theme throughout the Houston Chronicle in the 2 Star Edition, reported out of 37 paragraphs there were 11 Neutral, 14 Guilty, and 12 Innocent.
