Throughout history, there have long existed constant power-hungry struggles between religion and government. More specifically, Europe in the Middle Ages was an era filled with perilous battles, fought by indomitable enemies in search for ultimate supremacy. Hundreds of years later, our society still can’t help but wonder what similarities and affects have resulted from the Medieval European society. Although living in a secular nation, our society has learned and adopted many aspects of Medieval Europe’s correlation among church and state.
The Medieval Ages arose from the collapse of the Roman Empire and lasted until the Renaissance Period, yet its balance among church and state is still used and regarded. ... Imbedded in the cultural kingdom inlaid a predominately Christian society which revolved around the ideal fusion of government and faith.
The intention of the Roman Catholic Church to create and unite an empire by the bonds of a common faith was successfully accomplished and survived for many centuries. ... The Inquisitions, the Crusades, the authority of the popes and the extravagant gothic architecture prove the achievements and veracity of Medieval Europe truly existed.
