Abstract
Selecting the right software and hardware platform gives one the right tools to make the right business decisions and then to manage them efficiently over time. American General, an AIG member company, will be implementing SAP Release 3 (R/3) to approximately 1,500 departmental employees, on a pilot project in an effort to increase employee productivity and increased sales. The project is also geared towards the overall ambition of achieving a standardized systems platform across member companies, and with the main objective of ensuring business continuity and protection of mission-critical data while improving on application availability and lowering operating costs.
Developers can call upon a combination of tools for data analysis, decision optimization, business rules management, and open-platform deployment. Selecting the right software and hardware to develop platform that will provide the right tools to make the right business decisions, and then to manage them efficiently over time is always critical. The IT department, together with the business analysis group, has therefore a great task in identifying and implementing an infrastructure that will support the business solution design.
AIG American General will use an SAP Release 3 (R/3) system landscape that is composed collectively of DEV for development (integration), QA1 for testing (consolidation), and PRD for production (delivery). These three main components that shall constitute the complete system will require a SAP Development server, Quality Assurance server and Production server. To complete this project, the following additional hardware will be needed:
1 x E5000 (3 CPU 500MHz, 3gb total memory) for DEV
1 x E5000 (3 CPU 500MHz, 3gb total memory) for QA1
1 x E5500 (8 CPU 1000MHz, 8gb total memory) for PRD
All disks shall be hardware mirrored, and the SAP Oracle Database will have additional mirror software. The system shall run on UNIX servers using Solaris 5...
