The Pursuit of Post-Modern Status
In both The Laramie Project and In the Lake of the Woods, post-modern techniques can be seen. Both texts take on a " stream of consciousness" approach to story telling. The fact that a story is being written is recognized and has much more emphasis placed on it than the actual story. This self-reflexivity is a common trait of post-modern authors. Post-modern texts are also unconcerned with logical story flow. Non-linear narratives are a true sign of post-modern works. Another sign of post-modernism that is evident in these texts is the emphasis placed on fragmented, discontinuous narratives. Neither story has a definite ending. They leave the reader wanting more. Considering the components of a post-modern piece, The Laramie Project strikes me as a more effective pursuit of post-modern literature status...
