"A Day No Pigs Would Die," by Robert Newton Peck is a semi-autobiographical story because he was a son of a poor shaker family. His parents could not read or right just like them in the book. Robert Newton Peck uses many literary elements. Two of the elements are theme and symbolism.
A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck uses theme as one literary element. One theme is the trials of becoming a man. Throughout the story Robert goes through trials such as killing his best friend so they can have feed to make it through the winter. His best friend was a pig that their neighbor gave him for helping his cow give birth to two calves. He took care of that pig like it was his daughter, always fed it right, gave it a crib when it was a baby, took it on walks and talked to if like it was a human. He had to think of his true family and do what needed to be done...
