The media possesses a great deal of influence on society and in politics within the United States. Newspapers, magazines, radio, internet, and television have the power to sway popular opinion, educate the young, and even change the outcome of political elections. All of these forms of media used in conjunction with modern technology have made Americans the most informed, educated, and up to date society in the world. However, with this power comes a responsibility that the media cannot ignore. They must be as unbiased as possible in their coverage of important topics and be willing to show both sides of the story. They must also be aware of the influence they have over children and edit themselves appropriately. Keeping this in mind, the media must not forget that its main purpose is to entertain, inform, and educate its viewers and readers in an ethical and responsible manner.
