In the Martin Luther king speech he talked of cashing a check. In the Raisin in the sun mama actually gets a check. There are many similarities between mama's literal check and MLK's figurative check. The similarities are the both have a promise, a fulfillment of a promise; they both have an amount of worthlessness, and also have something to do with a racial barrier. So as we take this journey into the lands of time, we will have to see what they were talking about when they use the talk of cash. What the true meaning of cash is.
When MLK was talking about "so we have come to cash this check. A check that would give us freedom and justice." He was talking about a promise he was making to the people. A promise that he would have to fulfill...
