Honors Project: The Curse on Laius's Family
Over the course of three generations, Laius' family was cursed and wiped off the face of the earth. Laius was fated to be killed by his own son. He tried to prevent a son from being born by refusing to sleep with Jocasta, but she made him drunk and Oedipus was conceived. The two tried to kill Oedipus, but he was rescued by shepherds and grew up in another kingdom. Oedipus eventually killed Laius and took part in the incestuous relationship with his mother. When the terrible crime was discovered, Jocasta killed herself and Oedipus blinded himself and roamed the world in sorrow until he eventually died. Jocasta and Oedipus had four children: Eteocles, Polynices, Antigone, and Isemene. Eteocles and Polynices warred with each other over the throne of Thebes and eventually killed each other. Antigone went against Creon's wishes and attempted to bury her brother, Polynices, for which she was sentenced to death. She killed herself before the sentence could be carried out...
