Abstract
This dissertation attempts to highlight the technology behind peer-to-peer systems and explains how it has revolutionised the way we use the internet. It outlines the growth in breeches of copyright laws by referring to the infamous Napster and Kazza peer-to-peer clients. It tries to present the reader with a balanced debate on digital copyright issues and suggest ways in which such a global infringement can be combated. New data that has been collected and analysed will be used together with published information to suggest a way future infringers can be educated and how they can download media files legally. The dissertation will also look at new ways in which peer-to-peer technology is being used, who is behind any future developments and what lies in store in the next few years.
