The chaco war
The chaco war started on the 15th June,1932 and ended in 1935. It was a teritory dispute between Bolivia and Paraguay. The leaders involved were the Paraguayan president, Eusebio Ayala and General Jose Felix Estigarribia. Both countries were surrounded by land and wanted to expand their territory so to gain better acess or even control the River Paraguay, which runs down the border of the two countries. Both sides needed the river to help them surviveand had a huge state in the outcome of the war. For Paraguay the control over the Chaco region would ensure the continues production of mate and the export of this crop was vital to their economy. For Bolivia, control over the Chaco Region would resultin a waterway that was neccesary for trade and a potential oil exploration site. The chaco regions have very harsh conditions and the live of many soldiers were lost because of unknown diseases and infections. 100,000 lives were lost and both countries were beginning to feel the harsh economic strains from the war.The Paraguayan army was eventually able push the Bolivians back until they were almost entirely ejected from the Chaco region...
