Most Americans don't think about how much garbage they produce. We put our garbage out at the curb where it is picked up once a week and we don't think about it again. But waste disposal is becoming a major concern in the United States today. Our population is increasing and we are big consumers. The United States generates more garbage than any other country. "In 2001, U.S. residents, business, and institutions produced more than 229 million tons of solid waste, which is approximately 4.4 pounds of waste per person per day, up from 2.7 pounds per person per day in 1960" (Municipal Solid Waste Disposal)...
