Teenage Wasteland of Cinematography
Through the magic of cameras, music, and great directors, Hollywood is able to bring themes of the world to life, brining a viewer to a whole new realization of life. The feelings and detail that previously could only be experienced through books or personal experience can now be brought to anyone with the use of camera tricks and strategically placed music clips. Bringing feelings, and hidden messages and themes to life. This art is called cinematography and has been mastered over the years to show themes and emotions without ever using words. In the movies The Breakfast Club, and Simon Birch, the themes of adolescence and family are shown simply but effectively through different forms of cinematography, music and camera play.
In the movie Simon Birch, camera play and music is used to show Simon's adolescence and view of his family. One example of his adolescence being shown through music is when Simon and his best friend Joe are racing through the forest. The music is lively, simple, and entertaining, just like the two friends. This seen shows Simons carefree innocence as he runs carelessly through the forest. Music like this sets the tone of the film as Simon's adolescence progresses...
