Korean War
Question: Explain the events of the Korean War and in particular Australia's involvement.
The Korean War, started 25th of June 1950 when North Korean troops entered South Korea under the rule of Kim Il Sung and his government in an effort to create one communist nation. The United Nations reaction was to assist South Korea by sending troops to fight the North. Hundreds of thousands of men died in the many battles that took place in the Korean War including three hundred and thirty nine Australian. Sadly this war is scarcely remembered in Australia, at the time coverage and reports of the war had to compete with local tragedies.
In 1910 Japan took Korea by force as part of the Japanese Empire, because of this and their global position many Japanese people moved to Korea. After it's surrender in1945 the country was divided into two North and South Korea. The North followed it's communists neighbour China and powerful ally USSR by declaring itself a People's Republic under the leader ship of the Workers' Party of Korea with Kim Il Sung as their president.
