Rabies
Rabies is a disease that you can get from an infected animal's saliva. It can be transmitted through a bite or contamination of an open cut. Treatment is critical, rabies can cause a painful death if you do not treat it. Both animals and humans can be infected with this virus. Dogs, cats, racoons, foxes, bats and skunks are the greatest risks to humans. Rabies attacks the central nervous system and the brain and is one of the most terrifying diseases. Humans infected with Rabies in the United States maybe low, but it is higher in other countries. Aproximately 18,000 Americans get rabies shots each year, but death from Rabies in humans in the US is very rare. About 30,000 to 50,000 people in the world die from rabies.
